Another tough morning, with quite a breeze blowing; in fact it seemed to be a headwind round the entire course! It must have been a generally northerly wind, because there was quite a chill in it too.
Jake deservedly won the handicap with an excellent ride, but the Consolation Trophy winner is yet to be determined. As it can only be won by someone who has won no other trophy this year the first few places on handicap are already disqualified, and it will come down to the count.
Jake has almost certainly won the Road Race Trophy, Ray has the 100 Trophy, Simon the Club Events Points Trophy; which leaves Pete Edwards as the next contender - as yet he hasn't claimed a trophy for this year, but he took the 25 Trophy right at the end of the season last year and could still do so this year, which would make Tony Tugwell the next candidate.
Amy didn't do a bad ride for her first 25, a 1:22 is quite respectable on a hard course on a hard morning (illustrated by the fact that the faster riders scooped most of the handicap points), and of course it is a personal best for her. Ian was going well until a recurrence of an old injury forced him to slow for the second time this year - even so I had a job to recatch him as we came into the finish.
A good turnout of 11 riders who all started & finished was encouraged because at least three of us: Joe, Grant & myself were competing for the Dare Trophy, but as all three of us failed to score placings points in the handicap there was no change, leaving Joe the winner of the trophy. After the event he dashed off to a 10km run at Wimbledon convinced that he had lost the trophy.
The Sigma Sport Hill Climb will count as a Club Event if there are at least 5 Phoenix members entered, otherwise that is the end of the Club Events for the season. Although there is approximately 6 weeks left of the racing season most members are already winding down.
