At last a moderately warm evening for one of our 10's, even if we did have to contend with a slightly sticky cross-wind. New members Ian Burt and Amy Robinson did quite reasonable rides: Ian returning to racing after a long lay-off and benefitting from a rather too generous handicap, to win the Championship medal on offer in that category and Amy turning in a very respectable short 29 as only her second ever race. However the handicapper would do well to note that Ian rode his low-geared touring bike complete with mudguards.
Everyone improved their 10 times for the year - with the exception of Iain, who equalled his time of 25:11 - and a number were quite pleased with their times. Joe was pleased with a personal best and "plus" of 5 seconds in his first ride as a vet and Tony, benefitting from no longer driving hundreds of miles a week for work, was pleased with his time and hoping a slight improvement later in the year will give him a pb.
It looks as if we could be in for some battles this year, as there were two clusters of times around the 25:30 mark and the 27:30 mark, with a very tight battle between Jen & Jake for the Ladies Championship medal. Anyone wondering about Jen's miraculous increase in speed from the last two 10's should note that her bad back is responding to treatment and she got the racing bike out for this event!
Despite allowing Iain to win one of the earlier 10's Simon never really looked in danger of conceding his Championship medal to anyone else and a storming 23 minute ride really earned it.
Finally, the Vet's championship medal went to Pete, taking advantage of those extra seconds afforded by his first ride with tri-bars to win the medal by over a minute and a half from the closest of the other six vets riding.
